Capturing a moment in time in a place, this is an ongoing series of works about the ocean and the beach. Each print is pulled from a series of photographs made at the place and time it’s named after. The grids are screen grabs from my phone and google photos grids of images taken in succession (sometimes edited). With a photographer dad, an animator husband, and spending so much of my time photographing my kids and looking at other artist’s work, I’m super interested in the way that we look at images — quickly, slowly, big, small, one at a time, all together, and the stories we tell (or just imply) through them.
Every year I visit my family in California. It’s not where I grew up, but now it’s someplace I call home. Every visit I a pilgrimage to the beach — usually to Muir Beach, though now others as well. The vastness of the ocean is totally enthralling to me. The ocean is magnetic, terrifying, and unspeakably beautiful.
