Drawings and prints based on the flags in Jeff Barnett-Winsby’s project, An American Half Mile. He photographed every american flag he could find within half a mile of where he was living in Rhode Island in the mid 2000’s. There were a lot. I started by drawing the flags from every photograph — there are around 50 — and then I copied them to transparencies and started to make arrangements with them and turning those into prints. It’s got a dystopian aftertaste for me. I’m both proud and ashamed to be an American.
